Live Waxworms
Waxworms are the candy bar of feeders. They're soft, plump and rich, and almost every animal goes for them. Because they're high in fat, they work best as a treat, not a staple. That's also what makes them useful: a few waxworms can tempt a picky eater, help an animal regain weight after breeding or brumation, or add variety to a regular diet. At around 3/4 to 1 inch, they're a good fit for leopard geckos, crested geckos, chameleons, bearded dragons, frogs and more.
Tips from our team:
- Feed them sparingly, a few at a time as a reward or pick-me-up. Too many can make an animal pudgy or picky about its regular food.
- Store them cool, around 50–60°F, in the cup they came in. A cool basement or wine fridge works well. If they get warm, they'll turn into moths.
- Dust with calcium right before feeding.
- Soft bodies make them easy to digest, so they're a good option for smaller or recovering animals.
