Greens
Fresh turnip, mustard and collard greens, and one of the best staple greens you can feed. We stock whichever is freshest that week, so your bag may be one kind or a mix. All three have more calcium than phosphorus, which is what you want in a green you feed every day, and they're far more nutritious than lettuce. They're a great everyday green for bearded dragons, iguanas, uromastyx, tortoises, box turtles and blue-tongued skinks. They also make an excellent gut-load for crickets, roaches and worms, so the nutrition passes on to your animal.
Tips from our team:
- Rinse before serving, then chop to bite size. For bearded dragons and other lizards, keep pieces no bigger than the space between your animal's eyes.
- Strip out the thick stems, especially on collards. They're tough and most animals leave them behind.
- Rotate with other greens. Variety is healthier than feeding the same leaf every day, and it keeps picky eaters interested.
- Dust with calcium on your normal schedule. Greens help, but they don't replace your supplements.
- Take out uneaten greens by the end of the day so they don't wilt or spoil in the enclosure.
- Store them in the fridge, in the bag with a dry paper towel to soak up moisture. They're best within 3 to 5 days.
